Here's a few things I've been modeling so far this summer for my thesis.. such as my Cyclops's trojan horse...

...a close on my guy's face while wearing his spectacle...

...his full body's just about done, minus the hands. His trojan helmet's floating in the air by him..

..and finally his little humble cave house and tree. The tree design I'm a bit iffy on, so I've been experimenting around with those.

Classes start up in less then a week.. YAY! :)

PrePro DFA things

This is the story I'm developing in PrePro now.. It's about a lonely Cyclops on a Greek island who's looking for a friend.

I have no idea what color I want to make him yet.. mostly depends on the color scheme of his island.

These are the progress and finals from the Drama assignment. This first one's about a little girl whose tiny fishbowl pet grew far, far bigger and monstrous than it was supposed to. To keep it wet, she pours tea on his head during their tea party.

This was the second Drama painting.. It's an oppressive Emperor penguin being dragged across the Arctic by his seal minion.

I tried to explore a couple different painting styles.

For the Push Pull animation, this was my redneck gator. He was a really fun character to draw.

He's ready for a redneck Christmas. :)

I was given the models, but I arranged, textured, and lit the shots. Despite a couple rendering nightmares, this was probably my favorite project of the semester. Lots of fun. :)

I've been working more with my tablet lately, and it's becoming one of my favorite things. :) There's still a LOT more I have to do with this one, but this is the result of one night I decided it was more important to draw than to sleep. With all the computer stuff I've been doing, sometimes I miss (at least the illusion of) more traditional media. :)

This is my first polygonal modeling project. Technology and I had a major disagreement first time around for this project.. Somehow (probably by hitting extrude multiple times, without extruding) I ended up with about 5 polygonal faces in the same infinitely small space.. throughout basically the entire model. Three days before it was due, I had to practically restart. It was kind of a nightmare, but I definitely learned major lessons on how to model correctly. :)

This was the second project of the year-- I think I posted its thumbnails last time I posted anything here.

This was my first ever 3D animation. It's not horrendously terrible, but it's certainly not great. It's really amazing to me to think of how much I've learned in the last 3 months of school.

In Concept, I'm just finishing up developing a story about a Yeti and a yodeler. This is one of a trillion sketches of this guy in leiderhosen.

Basically the yodeler is yodeling his happy little heart out somewhere in the Alps..

When he wakes up an angry Yeti from his sleep.

..But before he can escape, the Yeti grabs him and tries to eat him. The Yodeler is able to hold on, and he yodels as loudly as he can from inside the Yeti.

..He yodels loudly enough to cause an avalanche, and he's able to jump out of the Yeti's mouth before he's covered in all the snow.

It's kind of a silly concept, and I feel like it's best when it has the sound effects that I threw into the animatic. In the near future, I'll try to post the actual movie file.

This is one of the first concept sketches I did, long before I had camera shots or final character designs considered.

For Concept Development, I created 20 gestures for my story about an obese bodyguard.

At 6 in the morning sometime a couple weeks ago, I really felt the need to draw something with my tablet just for the fun of it. It's nothing awesome, but it was fun. :) It was my first time messing around with Corel Painter.. typically I'm more of a Photoshopper... Photoshopist? Either way, I should get better sleeping habits.

Finally, an animation that doesn't involve kangaroos.

On the side, I'm working on a little animated short about lemmings. This is one of them.

These are the thumbnails for my newest upcoming Primitive Theater animation in CA.
My story is basically about a soda can named Dr. Insomniac who's walking nervously down a dark alley, lined with boxes and crushed soda cans. Dr. Insomniac is shaking, nervously looking from side to side, because these are zombie soda cans. A crushed can makes a zombie "uuugh" groan, and Dr. Insomniac quickly turns around. They stop moving, and Dr. Insomniac moves forward. One of them eventually taps him from behind, and he gets so scared he falls over and explodes, propelling him off-screen.

I suppose that's enough for now.. I just felt compelled to update after so long of.. not doing that. :)

This is the final product of my first semester in Traditional Animation. There are about a dozen things that really irk me about this animation that I definitely would have changed if I had more time. But really, considering it's my first animation ever beyond ball bounces and a flour sack jump, I'm pretty happy with it.

Doggie Art Festival 2006-2008

A local shop formerly known as The Doggie Door hosts an art show every year. These are a few of the paintings I've made for the past 3 years. I've been trying to experiment around with different styles and color palettes.
This is my most recent piece, finished about 3 months ago. I had never played with creating a warped perspective, so this was really fun to do.

I did the bulk of this when I was 17. I was doing some work with Impressionist studies, and I wanted to show that in my work. Unfortunately the photo was taken from a little too far away to see the finer details in the fur and whatnot. This was my first painting that I was brave enough to not give the subject a thick black outline, so, yay!

I did this one based on a photo of my dog Jade during my Senior year of high school. If I ever find that photo again, I'll post them side by side. I did the dog in guache and background in cheap tempera- which is unique, because all my other paintings have been acryllics.

This was my first painting ever, done when I was 16. (Aww.) I really like the bright, saturated colors.. but that's about it. :)
I tried to do some kind of glow effect here.. still want to work more with that idea. This painting was originally done when I was 16, but this past year I tried to go back and fix it as well as I could without making it into an entirely different piece. All I did was add in more grays and lighten the eyes while still keeping a sort of flat, graphical look.

Melvin the kangaroo

So I got this blog about.. 7 months ago, but this is a momentous occasion , because this is my first post! Why so long with no pictures? Wayy too slow of an internet to do anything about it. I now have a fast enough internet connection to upload tons of pictures! I'm pretty excited about this. =)
These are the character turnaround sheets for the TA1 final. I was assigned a kangaroo, and I decided to make him into a dweeby (but highly flirtacious) character. In the animation he awkwardly offers flowers to a cute little girl kangaroo and gets completely snubbed.
The inspiration for the design was kind of a mix between Rocko (from Rocko's Modern Life) and that nerdy kid on Family Guy whose name is escaping me now..
